Workouts in Disguise for the Whole Family

It’s always a challenge to find time to workout when you are busy with entertaining and running children around. This summer while workout slipped, moms everywhere found alternative ways to fit in a workout with the kids around. Here are 4 activities you can do with you kids that are fun and will increase that heart rate!

Play a Game of Tag: A good old fashion game of tag gets everyone running around while laughing and giggling the whole game. There’s nothing better than hearing the giggles of your kids as you chase them around the yard.

Go on a bike ride: Ride your bikes to the store or to the movies or around the neighborhood. It’s a great way get to get out and enjoy some fresh air.

Lace up to roller sakes (or roller blades): I grew up roller-skating around the neighborhood and at the local rink. It seems that now, I rarely see kids with rollers (skates or blades) on. Introduce your kids to good old fashion roller-skating.

Play a Game of Soccer: Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Challenge your kids to a game of soccer. Add a twist to the game (and increase the challenge of the workout), by playing grab soccer. To play crab soccer all players must have their feet flat on the ground with arms behind them also flat on the ground, your bottom is than lifted off the ground. Use your hands and feet to walk around like a crab. Same rules apply as soccer; only your feet are allowed to touch the ball! Great full body workout!!!

Not only do these activities give you a little workout but they also give you some quality time with the kids so they will think you are the most AWEMAZING parent out there!

Exercising Fun for Mommy AND Baby

They say that being a Mom is a full time job; in fact it’s a full time job with endless hours of overtime.  Between the cooking, cleaning, folding, feeding, changing, playing and hopefully sleeping, where are you supposed to find the time to work on that post baby body? How about incorporate your workout with playtime for baby? This way, baby gets the attention and playtime and you get toned- win for everyone! Here are a few exercises that you can do together. Instead of counting reps, we will sing songs to our baby to help keep them entertained.  Do this workout a few times a week and not only will your baby have fun watching you be healthy but you will also feel and look AweMazing!

Bridge Raises:

Lie on your back with baby on your stomach.  Push your heels into the ground and slowly raise your hips off the ground squeezing your glutes on the way up. Slowly lower back to the ground and repeat

  • Sing: 3 Rounds of “Old McDonald Had a Farm”

Baby Lunges

While holding your baby lunge forward and bend both your legs to a 90-degree angle. Make sure your front knee is not over your toes, and if it is step your front foot out more. Keep your abs pulled tight. You can either bring your back foot up to meet the front foot and change legs or you can slowly pulse up and down. Don’t forget to switch legs, you want an even workout.

  • Sing: Four rounds of “Wheels on the Bus”
  • Options: You can do lunges while pushing the stroller
    • For an added challenge hold the baby in the air as if you are doing a Warrior One yoga pose

Swim Suit Ready?

Summer is peaking right around the corner, are you ready? I know I am NOT; I’m still working towards my pre-baby body. Although I have been working hard and participating in weekly Stroller Strides and Yoga class I still need an extra bump.  When the ladies at Stroller Strides started the June Ab Challenge I immediately jumped on board! It’s going to be challenge but with the Southern California beaches calling my name it’s a no brainer. So here is the workout for today (I will post the workout each day). Who’s in? Who is ready to be summer ready!

12 crunches

12 Leg Lifts
